Who Is Ocean?
I’m a passionate, fun-loving designer specializing in brand identity, illustration, and character design. Outside of design, I enjoy reading webcomics and graphic novels, cooking and baking, thrifting, crafts, and listening to DnD podcasts.
For me, design is more than just aesthetics—it’s a powerful form of visual communication and storytelling. Whether it’s to sell a product or service, or to bring awareness to an important cause. Design is a crucial part of forming connections and effectively improving our community. When I work with clients, my main goal is to ensure that the final design exceeds in speaking its purpose and reaching its audience.
I was born and raised in the town of Hilo, HI. When I was in middle school, I took my first few art classes and from there I was always drawing. In sketchbooks first, and then on computers and iPads when I turned 16. Then in my senior year of high school, I began becoming interested in graphic design. So I chose to study such when I went to college at Portland State University. I had a lot to learn compared to most of my classmates as I didn’t have any learning experience in design prior. But I was able to pick up the skills quickly thanks to my professors and the friends I made along the way.
Now currently, I’ve been able to work on exciting projects in branding, illustration, social media, and many more. And I continue to seek out more opportunities to meet more amazing people and work on more awesome projects.
I’m currently open to freelance work and junior designer positions, primarily in Portland, OR, though I’m open to remote opportunities. If you’re a fellow creative, I’d love to connect! I’m always excited to meet new people in the creative community.
